Europe Minor Championship - Atlanta Next major tournament in CS: When and where will the next major tournament be in CS: As many people have been wondering, where are the news about the next community-funded tournament?

Now it's been two months since EMS Katowice, and there's still not a sign of an upcoming major tournament yet. People have also seemed to be confused by the definition of a major tournament.

Are there "only" going to be two majors a year or are there plans to create even bigger tournaments then now? Could there be something similar planned for CS: GO or will we continue with the k prize pool tournaments, that's funded by the ever-growing "skin-market"?

What would you guys like to see? So far, all community funded tournaments have been tied to the release of a new Esports case series, the last one being the Esports Winter case which helped fund the prize pool for EMS One Katowice.

This is a little speculative of course, but I would not expect any major tournament announcements until a new Esports Case series has been rolled out.

I think Valve have said they would prefer a bunch of tournaments rather than a Dota2 style once a year huge tournament, because in Dota2 all of the others get overlooked just as ESEA and DHS are now being overlooked by most So with that in mind I'm also surprised we don't yet have a date for the next eSport case funded tournament.

Ultimately nobody but Valve know what is happening so we just have to sit and wait. One thing that is pretty certain though, the prize fund must be stacking up nicely!

That sounds pretty good. Having a league with seasons is a great way to keep a bit of hype going throughout the year, following up with a big yearly tournament.

It's a tried and tested approach. Well the only draw back is the constant bombardment of content. It generally comes with less viewer numbers because each event is seen as less important until the grand finals.

If you have a job or go to school it can be difficult to follow every event without a decent amount of effort on your part.

Yeah but that is not working great for starcraft - its been stale and in decline for a while now. This is very accurate. ESEA is huge for the American scene you can't possible consider it a minor.

I just want EMS all over again. That tournament had so much excitement. Hope there is another large tournament before DHW.

Each coincided with a season or would in a perfect world.

That does not mean that other tournaments are 'minors'. They're just not major championships. They aren't minor like the way tennis minors are small regional events with few, if any, top players attending or the way 'minor leagues' are formatted in baseball or hockey a development system for younger players which are much worse in quality than the top events.

All others were secondary tournaments - but they were not 'minor' events. Winning GameGune or one of the Arbalet Cups in was still a big deal.

Currently I'd classify ESEA LAN as a second tier event simply because its small in size 8 teams max , the production level is not as good and its not as big of a circus as other events.

But the question still remains: There are multiple ways The International does this. The first is the scheduling and the tie-in to the event throughout the year.

In Dota2, it has worked one of two ways. Either the best teams are invited to The International based on their results and an internal ranking system or they are alloted Dota Pro Circuit points based on placement.

Then the rest of the teams have to go through the regional qualifiers. GO Majors as it does two things. The first is that it creates a fair and balanced bracket for all teams involved.

The second is that it creates a continuity between itself and the rest of the year. In the current system, the CS: GO Major largely ignores all other tournaments and pretends none of those tournaments exists.

Essentially it is an anti-community system as it ignores everything else. It is a subtle thing, but noticeable if you are someone who is involved in both CS: In Dota2, everything you do in the year builds up to that moment.

GO, nothing you did in the previous year truly ties in beyond building your own legacy. The next point we have to get is scheduling.

Everyone knows that The International is always scheduled in August. In the current CS: GO climate, no one knows when the CS: DreamHack Open Leipzig Counter Strike Online World Championship International Gaming League - Grand Finals.
